NET RADIO TRAFFIC CONTROL:

In a public service net, there are three levels of radio traffic:

All routine traffic ceases when priority traffic is being transmitted.

All routine and priority traffic ceases when emergency traffic is being transmitted.

During emergencies or urgent situations, Net Control may restrict radio traffic to priority and/or emergency traffic only.

To interrupt net traffic in progress:

MESSAGE HANDLING:

When sending message traffic, you might hear the proword "X-Ray" used for the "period" symbol in a sentence.

When reading a message, the proword "Break" is used to separate the header and end of message from the text of the message.

LINGO:

The word "machine" is often used as another word for repeater (you might hear "The 88 Machine" as another name for the 146.88 repeater).

XYL    A radio operator's spouse.

Query    You are seeking information.

Info    You have information that will answer a question or clarify a statement.

Re-Check    You have an additional question or need, or you need to clarify a statement.

Talk-In Frequency    The frequency used prior to a public service event to call for directions, etc.  You will often hear the event participants conversing on the drive to and from the event.  It can be a fun time to get together on the air prior and after an event!  The frequency is not on a controlled net during "Talk-In".
