Tech Net on the Hill

The City of Dallas Office of Emergency Management and the Dallas Amateur Radio Club invite
YOU to join US for Tech Net on the Hill at The Pavilion, located at Flag Pole Hill, 8100 Doran
Drive, on Saturday, April 13, 2013 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Pavilion is near the intersection
of Northwest Highway and Buckner. The City of Dallas OEM sponsors CERT and RACES –
emergency response and communications assistance organizations for our communities -- and
the DARC works with the OEM to help support those.

Citizens Emergency Response Training (CERT) and RACES members will be there to greet
you with a friendly welcome, literature and applications. CERT trains citizens so that in
an emergency you will know what to do and what not to do. Surveys of disasters in other
communities have shown that a shockingly high percentage of deaths are those of the
neighbors who were trying to rescue others. Your willingness to learn and prepare can save
lives!

Dallas RACES (Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service) consists of licensed amateur radio
operators who volunteer their time and equipment to provide supplemental communication
to local, county and state governments in times of emergency or natural disaster. RACES Nets
are authorized by the Federal Communications Commission per Part 97, Subpart E of the
federal regulations and by local Emergency Management offices. RACES members often help
in the Dallas/Fort Worth area by providing information to the National Weather Service during
periods of threatening or severe weather.

The DARC will be celebrating our Third Anniversary of Weekly Tech Nets and will sponsor a
Ham Radio Show and Tell. Bring your favorite ham radio rigs, antennas, coax, analyzers, or
other technological equipment for discussion. Mike Chittenden, AE5IV, is bringing his analyzer
equipment available to checkout your mobile radio system. Talk with, ask questions of, and
have fun visiting amateur radio operators from all over the DFW area. Meet and greet old and
new friends, Saturday, April 13, 2013 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Ham radio operators from all over
the DFW region join us each Saturday night for Tech Net on the Air. We look forward to seeing
them in person and to seeing you!

Tech Net on the Hill this year is a joint community event with the Dallas OEM and the Dallas
Amateur Radio Club celebrating Tech Net's third year on the air! Tech Net is hosted by the
DARC every Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. on 146.88 MHz with a PL Tone of 110.9.
Join us for hot dogs and soft drinks, friendly people, interesting ham radio equipment to discuss
and Emergency Preparedness Tables to visit. Come on out and have fun!

What is Fldigi?

Fldigi is a computer program intended for Amateur Radio Digital Modes operation using a PC (Personal Computer). Fldigi operates (as does most similar software) in conjunction with a conventional HF SSB radio transceiver, VHF and uses the PC sound card as the main means of input from the radio, and output to the radio. These are audio-frequency signals. The software also controls the radio by means of another connection, typically a serial port.

Fldigi is multi-mode, which means that it is able to operate many popular digital modes without switching programs, so you only have one program to learn. Fldigi includes all the popular modes, such as DominoEX, MFSK16, PSK31, and RTTY.

Unusually, Fldigi is available for multiple computer operating systems; FreeBSD™; Linux™, OS X™ and Windows™.

DARC 100th Anniversary Logo Design Contest PDF Print E-mail
Written by Administrator

By Brad West, K5CMO

As most of you know, the Dallas Amateur Radio Club will soon be celebrating its 100-year anniversary. To celebrate this event DARC President Randy KE5JIT has announced a contest to create a suitable logo to recognize this milestone. To oversee the contest he has appointed a 100th Anniversary Contest Committee comprising Bill, AE5BK; David, KF5XHQ; John, KF5IOU; Katherine, KE5ZCM, and myself.

The Committee is calling all doodlers, graphic designers and anybody else who can pick up a pencil, pen or crayon to unleash your creativity. The goal is to design a 100th Anniversary Logo which captures the rich history of the DARC! This can be as simple as a sketch or as complex as a full blown graphic design using your favorite design software. The winning design will be used for Club events during the centennial year. It will also be emblazoned upon commemorative merchandise items marking the clubs 100 years in serving our community through amateur radio.

Send your logos to the contest's exclusive This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Your inputs can be scanned images, attached graphic files or even a picture of your design. We will review and discuss each proposed logo and vote to pick the winner!

Did I mention that this is a contest? The winner of the contest will receive a prize! Some would say that just having their design represent the DARC in future branding would be prize enough but the Committee will be working with club leadership to define a proper prize for the winning entry. Be sure and attend this month's club meeting to find out further details!

So sharpen up that pencil or start loading that software and get busy using that other side of your brain. Be creative and start working on those great designs!
