Bike Rodeo

Hello folks.

On Sept. 11, Highland Village Police will host their 3rd annual,   intra city police bike race / rodeo from 8 to noon.

It's not complicated. No APRS, maybe no internet so no Depiction. Just a simple net control on .17 repeater, if we get permission. Eleven Stations will be scattered out along the trail, (contact Dale for maps) mostly HT work.   The police and fire dept. will be manning the big intersections. Along the trail, most hams can use their HT's. Some places, they may be able to use their mobile. Anyone who can help should contact Dale, KB5NFT at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

I am sure that all of us have a practise code oscillator and maybe a simple straight key lin our junk bin just gathering dust. Well the scouts at this fall's camporee at the end of October, need help. They need equipment to set up around 24 practise stations. This stuff will be on loan to them and the scouts will make good if any stuff grows legs and walks away. Each station will have two scouts. One scout sending and the other receiving. They can come up with headphons, connectors and wire. They just need to borrow a simple key (no fancy ones please) and a battery powered oscillator. Please email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it , who ever can help.

You may have heard that 2010 marks the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America.  A centennial jamboree BSAwas held again this summer just outside of Washington DC with approximately 72,000 Scouts, adults and visitors in attendance of the 10 day event.  The Circle 10 Council (Dallas area north to Oklahoma) plans to hold a local Centennial Campout during the last weekend of October (Oct 29-31) at the Dallas Executive Arport (Formely known as Red Bird). Our club has been asked to provide aextensive JOTA style station or Get On The Air Stations, using the club trailer.  I'll also be starting a DARC Yahoo operation group for one time events like this. Anyone who is interested in helping should keep those dates open. I'll be contacting everyone at the next meeting on how they can help.

Dallas Field Day 2010FD

Excitement, Fun and Free Food!

By Tom General, KE5ICX – President DARC

Think Dallas Field Day! Think Excitement! Think Fun! Think Food and Lots of It!

That is what you have rolled into one event when you come and attend the Dallas Field Day! The Dallas Amateur Radio Club will have its Field Day 2010 operation at Flagpole Hill. Field Day is always the last full weekend in June.

FDField Day actually starts on the air at 1:00pm Saturday, June 26th, and ends 1:00pm Sunday, June 27th, this year. Our activities will start on Saturday morning around 0800 to begin setting up for the event.

We will be using a solar powered trailer for all our radio equipment and computers. This unit will generate more power than what we will need, but truly put us on "alternate power source" gaining extra points, for the event, and enabling the owner to further test their equipment in preparation for the next emergency.

We will also have our DARC Communications and Generator Trailers there to test them for improvements/modification proposals for future events – your input is welcome – along with your contributions.

We are requesting and hoping that we have a great turn out for families or individuals who are able and would like to spend the weekend camping out with us – remember this is a City of Dallas Park and no alcoholic beverages are permitted. We had several folks that camped with us last year and had a great time.FD

We will start Saturday morning with volunteers helping to set up and being ready to CQ CQ CQ CQ dit dah dit dah, Whisky 5 Fried Chicken at 1:00 p.m! We will be operating 3 C with a GOTA station.

For those in attendance, DARC will provide a free meal Saturday lunch consisting of Hamburgers & Hot Dogs and our traditional BBQ Dinner being served around 1900 hours Saturday. The dinner menu will consist of smoked brisket, smoked sausage, potato salad, baked beans and the trimmings (subject to change-final planning not complete at time of writing). Who knows, we might even have dessert?

Food will be served until it runs out! It is a "first-come first-served event".

For all members of DARC, and any visitors (visitors are more than welcome), we would like to have you join us for the fun, the educational opportunity and plentiful FOOD! See you there and bring your appetite, you will need it.FD
