Jamboree-On-The-Air National Scouting Museum Saturday, October 20, 2012 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Admission is $5 each. For guests participating only in the ARISS contact event, admission is free.
2012 marks the 55th year for Jamboree-on-the-Air (JOTA) so come be a part of it all at the National Scouting Museum! JOTA is a World Scouting event that bridges Scouts all over the world via amateur radio. Numerous amateur radio stations will be set up throughout the Museum, allowing for both local and global communication by various modes. There will also be many other fun and educational activities; such as hidden transmitter hunts, electronic project assembly, solar telescopes, demonstrations of satellite communications, and much more throughout the day!
The National Scouting Museum has the distinction of being the only JOTA location in the world that will enable approximately twenty Scouts to communicate directly with NASA astronaut Sunita Williams, commander, who is currently on board the International Space Station. The contact, which is scheduled to take place at 1:32 p.m., CDT, is made possible through Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS), a cooperative venture among NASA and other international space agencies that coordinates scheduled radio contacts between astronauts aboard the ISS and educational institutions, such as the National Scouting Museum. For those who cannot visit the Museum in person, the contact will be streamed live at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/dallasjota .
Scouts who visit the Museum for this event receive a commemorative patch, with paid admission! While supplies last.
