Tech Net on the Hill

The City of Dallas Office of Emergency Management and the Dallas Amateur Radio Club invite
YOU to join US for Tech Net on the Hill at The Pavilion, located at Flag Pole Hill, 8100 Doran
Drive, on Saturday, April 13, 2013 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Pavilion is near the intersection
of Northwest Highway and Buckner. The City of Dallas OEM sponsors CERT and RACES –
emergency response and communications assistance organizations for our communities -- and
the DARC works with the OEM to help support those.

Citizens Emergency Response Training (CERT) and RACES members will be there to greet
you with a friendly welcome, literature and applications. CERT trains citizens so that in
an emergency you will know what to do and what not to do. Surveys of disasters in other
communities have shown that a shockingly high percentage of deaths are those of the
neighbors who were trying to rescue others. Your willingness to learn and prepare can save
lives!

Dallas RACES (Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service) consists of licensed amateur radio
operators who volunteer their time and equipment to provide supplemental communication
to local, county and state governments in times of emergency or natural disaster. RACES Nets
are authorized by the Federal Communications Commission per Part 97, Subpart E of the
federal regulations and by local Emergency Management offices. RACES members often help
in the Dallas/Fort Worth area by providing information to the National Weather Service during
periods of threatening or severe weather.

The DARC will be celebrating our Third Anniversary of Weekly Tech Nets and will sponsor a
Ham Radio Show and Tell. Bring your favorite ham radio rigs, antennas, coax, analyzers, or
other technological equipment for discussion. Mike Chittenden, AE5IV, is bringing his analyzer
equipment available to checkout your mobile radio system. Talk with, ask questions of, and
have fun visiting amateur radio operators from all over the DFW area. Meet and greet old and
new friends, Saturday, April 13, 2013 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Ham radio operators from all over
the DFW region join us each Saturday night for Tech Net on the Air. We look forward to seeing
them in person and to seeing you!

Tech Net on the Hill this year is a joint community event with the Dallas OEM and the Dallas
Amateur Radio Club celebrating Tech Net's third year on the air! Tech Net is hosted by the
DARC every Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. on 146.88 MHz with a PL Tone of 110.9.
Join us for hot dogs and soft drinks, friendly people, interesting ham radio equipment to discuss
and Emergency Preparedness Tables to visit. Come on out and have fun!

The North Central Texas Council Of Governments has a very good web site about emergency preparedness:  http://www.knowwhat2do.com and http://www.knowwhat2do.com/kids.

The website is topical and current, and includes topical information for the season or for other current threats. Currently featured are topics on "Traveling For the Holidays" and "Holiday Hazards".

Main features of the website include an "Emergency Supply Kit Checklist" that you can use to put together an emergency kit for your family. Also, a step-by-step online tool helps you organize a pocket emergency plan.

A complete Spanish Language version is available at http://www.knowhat2do.com/es/.
