Amateur Satellites with Bill Krueger AE5BK Next General Meeting PDF Print E-mail

Bill Krueger, AE5BK, will be speaking at the Club meeting on the first Tuesday, September 7th, on the topic of amateur radio satellites.  His discussion will include antennas and methodologies in “working the birds.”


Bill is also bringing his new communications trailer he built from “scratch” to the meeting.   So please come by!  Our meetings are always the first Tuesday of the month, September 7th  at Brookhaven Church.  Located at 13000 Marsh Lane, Dallas, TX (in the chapel/youth center).    The board meeting is at 6PM with the regular meeting immediately following at 7PM.  All are welcome to either or both meetings!

Minutes of the DARC General Meeting for August 3, 2010,

 

The meeting was called to order by the President of the club Tom General, KE5ICX, at 7:21 p.m. at the Brookhaven Church, at the corner of Marsh Lane and Valley View.

 

27 members / visitors were present.

 

Larry led the club members and guest in the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Club members and guest were introduced by name and call sign.

 

A copy of the July meeting minutes was handed out to be read and approved by club members.

 

Kipton Meravec, AE5IB, gave his presentation on High Speed Muti-Mesh Technology (HSMM).

 

The “Red Hot Chili Pepper” bike rally is coming up on Sat. August 21. There are a few more positions that will need to be filled. A sign up sheet was passed around for volunteers.

The question was asked if any would be interested in participating and completing a CW course and there was some interest shown, so this could possibly be done in the near future.

 

There will be a “Contact Contest” starting tonight on the 88 repeater and will continue until the evening of September 7th at 6:00 p.m. A contact log is required to be kept and the contest will be based on the point system. This endeavor is to promote amateur radio fellowship and more activity on the repeater. There will be a $50.00 gift certificate to Tanner Electronics given to the winner at the September club meeting.

 

The attending club members accepted and voted in its newest members:

Dhiren Parbhoo/KF5FPP and Jonathan Brandenburg (no call at this time).

 

The “Plano Balloon Festival” will take place on September 17, 18 and 19. Numerous operators are needed on this event in helping on launch and recovery efforts

 

Door prize-grab bags containing “assorted electronic stuff” were won by Katherine, Dave, and Grant.

 

Meeting adjourned at 9:05 p.m.

Bike Rodeo

Hello folks.

On Sept. 11, Highland Village Police will host their 3rd annual,   intra city police bike race / rodeo from 8 to noon.

It's not complicated. No APRS, maybe no internet so no Depiction. Just a simple net control on .17 repeater, if we get permission. Eleven Stations will be scattered out along the trail, (contact Dale for maps) mostly HT work.   The police and fire dept. will be manning the big intersections. Along the trail, most hams can use their HT's. Some places, they may be able to use their mobile. Minutes of the DARC Board Meeting of August 3, 2010

The meeting was called to order by the DARC President Tom General at 618: p.m. at the Brookhaven Church on Marsh Lane and Valley View.

 

Introductions of board members and guest took place by name and call sign for recorded purposes.

 

Positions are still needed to be filled for the Red Hot Chili Peppers event which will take place on August 21st.

 

The DARC website will continue to be maintained by club member Herman, KE5HYW. He will go back through site to check for “broken links”.

 

The July board minutes were approved by the attending board members.

 

Tony, KE5TGM, gave the Treasurer’s Report which can be found in the regular club meeting minutes.

 

Volunteers were sought to contact people who dropped by the field day event and ask for input as to any questions about the event, the DARC or amateur radio in general.

 

The club has been going in the direction of an educational/social organization. There has been some interest in training for CW. Also the school that has been in the area still has an amateur radio program going on. It is hoped that some of these avenues can be perused by the club to provide opportunities to those who are interested.

 

The “New Member Information Packet” is in the process of being completed by Katherine, KE5ZCM, and Randy, KE5JIT.

 

Meeting Adjourned at 7:08 p.m.
